Just exactly what does that mean, the Stowe 2 in 1 is a waterproof tonneau cover, aren’t all tonneau covers waterproof, I mean what’s the point of selling a tonneau cover that isn’t waterproof? A leaky tonneau cover, nobody would buy that.

Oh, but they do.

THE MOST WATERPROOF RAM 2500 TONNEAU COVER – THE MYTH

We have all read and listened to the stories about leaky tonneau covers. It’s the number one complaint online with regards to tonneau covers, waterproof tonneau covers don’t exist, and all of the manufacturers play games with words when it comes to defining how water resistant their covers really are. With them, it’s all about legal liability, how far can we go in misleading the consumer without being held liable, because we haven’t actually said a non-truth. Let’s dig in.

Many, if not most tonneau cover manufacturers, use the term resistant, because it really defines what the sealing system is, a water-resistant seal. It’s not designed to be waterproof or keep the truck box water and moisture free. In this way, consumers feel like it is water free, because in their minds, who would build a tonneau cover to protect the box contents from water intrusion, but not really stop the water intrusion completely. It simply doesn’t make sense. We didn’t think so either.
There is a large group of consumers that have given up on tonneau covers and have decided that they will look for the best of the worst, so they buy what they deem to be the least, leaky tonneau cover. Imagine that. In the very least, they expect that whatever tonneau cover they buy, they will have leakage to some extent, they just hope it’s minimal.
Additionally, tonneau cover manufacturers sometimes, rarely, but sometimes use the term waterproof in their sales material. It’s typically used to describe the “tonneau cover” itself and not the whole system. So, the “cover” is waterproof, but your box won’t be. You need a complete tonneau cover system that is waterproof so your truck box will be dry and water and moisture free. Again, it’s not a false claim to say the cover itself is waterproof, you can spray it with waterproofing sealers, but that doesn’t stop the water from entering the box.

At the heart of the Stowe 2 in 1 is a no compromise commitment to several core tenants.

First, the system must be waterproof, and beyond that, all weathertight so we can keep out not only the water, but dust, dirt, and moisture, weather and wind driven rain and dust, or otherwise. (more on that later).

We had to accomplish all of that while using automotive OEM grade components, sealants, and engineering to ensure this would be “the last tonneau cover you would ever need for your truck”
It needed to look as if it rolled off the OEM factory floor with your truck, it couldn’t have the compromised appearance, performance, or inherent inadequacies of typical aftermarket, off-shored tonneau covers. It had to be all American made to the highest quality standards and it needed to compliment your trucks styling, period, end of story.

Double Bulb Seals

Stowe’s Innovative OEM factory grade sealing system is based on a custom engineered, high performance, urethane double bulb sealing technology. We took the approach of sealing the seal for the absolutely most waterproof seal possible. This is similar to, but more sophisticated than what you find on your trucks doors given the complexity of sealing a tonneau cover system. The Stowe double bulb seals are custom designed to control seal compression for sealing, panel closing efforts and manage changes in the sealing surface height (eg. bedrail cover ribbing).

Seal Compression

is key to effective sealing and is affected by changes in height between the covers and the truck box surface around the perimeter of the front and rear panels. Our double bulb gaskets manage this critical factor in keeping your truck box waterproof.

Tool-Box Seal

The Stowe system is designed to be weathertight not simply water resistant; water, dust, moisture and road salt just won’t get in—period. The toolbox is a sealed and secure storage environment. Its top cover is equipped with the same, custom double-bulb perimeter seal that provides extraordinary protection.

Truck Box Moisture

This is simply never addressed with other tonneau covers. On a cool evening after a hot, humid day, your typical aluminum toolbox will suffer from interior wall condensation as the hot air cools, and this moisture, combined with dust and dirt that get by standard consumer grade foam gaskets and seals found on other tonneau covers can corrode anything stored in the truck box . With Stowe’s composite cover construction comprised of multi-layered, insulated, high performance, and impact resistant materials, this just doesn’t happen.

Independent Double Bulb Seals

Our tonneau cover is equipped with the same perimeter seal design as the toolbox cover, providing a true waterproof and weathertight seal around the rear truck box area in addition to the storage and tool box seal

Seal Coatings

When it came to maintaining the waterproof characteristics of our high performance, custom urethane, double bulb seal, we had to ensure the seal itself would last as long as you owned your truck, in order to do that we had to engineer a process and apply a waterproof, antistick coating so that there would be no friction between the seal and the cover, something no other tonneau cover manufacturer does. We had to ensure that there was no sticking between components so that when they separated there was no degradation in the gasket itself over time, and that it would maintain its sealing characteristics in the long run. Other manufacturers use inexpensive foam strips or standard foam seals that deteriorate over time from this type of cover friction, it’s why most tonneau covers leak within a short period of time after installation, most truck owners see water intrusion within the first year from foam failures in the sealing system.

Cover Composites

The Stowe 2 in 1 cover panel is highly-engineered and the most advanced cover technology in the industry. One of the safety measures we took when building the cover panel was to not only mitigate the entrance of water into the panel itself, but if so, stop the water, and its ability to cause any harm to the cover in terms of delamination, deterioration or failures that would further hinder its ability to remain weathertight. Our panel cover uses advanced automotive grade closed cell technology in the core that simply won’t allow water penetration even when faced with moisture. One of the biggest challenges with current tonneau covers is they use open cell, off the shelf foam. For those covers the open cell foam is a critical point of failure. If that gets wet, it swells and delaminates the cover, thus destroying the water-resistant seal, instant leaks forever. We have all seen these covers in the parking lot, they are bulging, lifting up at the corners, and look like hell. Imagine what the stuff inside looks like!

Cover Encapsulation

Our cover panels are fully encapsulated and wrapped using advanced materials and water proofing surface treatments. Many cover systems use the rail system to protect the cover from water penetration, relying on water routing channels to move the water away from the edges and seams, but these channels are easily inundated and overrun with water volume during the smallest of rainstorms, thus exposing weak points at the edges of the covers and seams for water to penetrate and saturate the foam core. At Stowe we merely encapsulated the cover so the core can’t be penetrated, but if it were to be, it is faced with an impenetrable wall of advanced closed cell material.
